Take a moment to read this online petition for the impeachment of Florida's Judge George W. Greer, who's been presiding over the Terri Schiavo case, and who has approved the removal of Schiavo's feeding tubes. The petition asserts many grounds for impeachment, including that this video clip shows a "visibly impatient and angry" judge. (I saw a fairly restrained judge, but decide for yourself.)
But far more revealing are the comments of the signators. You'll see scores of examples of why I commented below that, imo, far more ethics claims are tossed out than are truly merited. (I have not seen any proof that this judge did anything more than apply the law in an appropriate way.)
You'll also see the fragility of the authority of the judicial function. And that is why, on balance, I support the appearance of impropriety standard, even though that standard has proved unworkable in other contexts.
